GREAT IRS TAX-SAVING RULE

IF YOU DON’T NEED THE INCOME from your mandatory IRA distribution, you can send that money directly from your retirement account to the tax-deductible charities of your choice and thereby reduce your taxable income by that amount. Your financial adviser has the appropriate process available to implement your instructions (though I discovered my FA had not actually done it before this year.) Some IRA accounts even offer a checkbook to put the process directly under your control.
