NEXT GENERATION JAZZ ORCHESTRA

PAUL CONTOS leading the big band at the Garden Stage, Thursday morning. Baritone William Brandt, from Los Angeles’ Academy of Music and Performing Arts at Hamilton High School, sang Cole Porter’s Night and Day and Pat Hogan’s arrangement of Miles Davis’ Nardis. Hundreds of school kids were bused in for the event.

ENSEMBLE MONTEREY ANNOUNCES ITS NEW SEASON

FOUR PROGRAMS, in Carmel and Santa Cruz, include American “Serenades for Strings” (October), “Songs and Dances” featuring Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer, with baritone Tom Lehmkuhl (February), “Schubert” (March) and “The King Shall Rejoice” baroque masterpieces (April).
