COMPOSER STEPHEN TOSH REMEMBERED
MORE THAN 350 friends, musical colleagues and family attended last Saturday’s celebration of the life and “genius” of the Monterey County composer who grew up in Los Angeles and became part of the Monterey musical community as a teenage student at Hidden Valley Music Seminars in Carmel Valley. The event, at the church Tosh and his wife Barbara regularly attended, the Greater Victory Temple in Seaside, witnessed an outpouring of love and admiration that surprised even the church’s pastor Ronald Britt. The accolades included music by Tosh and others, and a song from a musical he had just completed for the opening of the recently renovated Forest Theater in Carmel. Among those in attendance was Louis Lebherz who, two decades ago, recorded three Tosh songs to poems by Robinson Jeffers. Watch and listen here.
THE TOSH FUND
ENSEMBLE MONTEREY has created a special fund to collect and catalog all Steve’s music and to engage his wife Barbara to bring needed organization and preservation to his music, much of which has never been performed. They invite you to visit their website, www.ensemblemonterey.org, and consider making a tax-deductible contribution to their Tosh Fund through their Donate Now link.
