BIG CHANGES IN THE WIND OVER MONTEREY BAY

THE MONTEREY SYMPHONY is engaged in a search for a new music director, expected to be announced from four 2020-2021 finalists in March, 2021. YOUTH MUSIC MONTEREY has named Danko Druško its new music director as the new school year begins. (Suzanne Mudge has just taken up her new role as YMM’s executive director.) ARTS COUNCIL FOR MONTEREY COUNTY must shortly name a replacement for longtime executive director Paulette Lynch. ARTS COUNCIL SANTA CRUZ COUNTY hopes to announce a new executive director by December or January. HAMISH TYLER vowed to retire last month as director of MCAET, the Monterey County Office of Education’s high-tech audio/video service; he promised us repeatedly but reneged on his “plenty of blame to go around” spill-all on the disastrous failure of its arts-oriented Millennium Charter High School.

ACSO 2019 CONFERENCE IN MONTEREY

NICOLA REILLY reports. “The Association of California Symphony Orchestra’s (ACSO) held its 50th Anniversary conference at the Embassy Suites this last week. Monterey Symphony was the local host and the conference was co-chaired by Nicola Reilly, Executive Director of MSO, and Aubrey Bergauer, Executive Director of California Symphony. Over 250 delegates attended and enjoyed plenary presentations from Nina Simon, Vu Le and Patty McCord. The conference sessions spanned from an entire half-day workshop for small budget organizations, to an advocacy session from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, to trends in fundraising, marketing and development. The conference received local support from both the Community Foundation for Monterey County and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, as well as dozens of individual donors. The 2020 ACSO conference will be held in Riverside, hosted by the San Bernadino Symphony. Vu Le was inspired by the conference and wrote his Monday post about it.” CLICK HERE to read it.
