KYLE EASTWOOD’S “TIME PIECES”

Kyle EastwoodTHIS NEW Harmonia Mundi CD of the veteran jazz bassist is really tasty, if short of today’s avant-garde, and not least for the exceptional band he assembled: Brandon Allen, tenor sax; Quentin Collins, trumpet; Andrew McCormack, piano; Ernesto Simpson, drums. The one-hour program includes covers of Blowin’ the Blues Away by Horace Silver and Dolphin Dance by Herbie Hancock. Collins and McCormack wrote a tribute to the late Horace called Peace of Silver and McCormack penned Vista. For the other six tracks, Eastwood shares credit with his mates.
